The Blavatnik School of Government is seeking to engage up to two casual Research Assistants to work on a research project with Dr Anne-Marie Houde on British attitudes towards the EU post-Brexit. The project looks at attitudes towards the European Union and the emotions they generate.
The role
The casual Research Assistant will contribute to organising five focus groups and collecting qualitative data, which will subsequently be analysed in the manuscript of a monograph in preparation.
The focus groups will consist of citizens, from Oxford, from five sociodemographic groups: retired individuals over 60, students, young unemployed people, white-collar workers, and young professionals.
Duties will include:
- Helping to recruit participants for each focus group;
- Helping with the logistics (e.g. room and catering booking; seeking support from the School’s IT & AV teams where necessary);
- Communicating with the participants, including helping them fill out questionnaires to obtain background information for screening purposes, and collecting the participants’ availabilities to schedule the discussions;
- Attending the focus groups and collecting relevant data during the discussions, such as impressions of the groups’ body language, interpersonal dynamics, etc., which will later be analysed;
- Attending and participating in debriefs following each discussion;
- Revising transcriptions, if required.
This casual engagement will last approximately six weeks, with the possibility of an extension depending on project needs. Hours will vary from week to week depending on project requirements, and up to a maximum of 10 hours for some weeks.
