The inaugural recipients of the first Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) Scholarships have been announced and we are looking forward to welcoming Emokiniovo Akpughe (Nigeria), Efosa Trevor Edobor (Nigeria), Abdul-Fatawu Z. Hakeem (Ghana), Chukwunonso Iheoma (Nigeria), Oluwapelumi Simpson (Nigeria) and Emmanuel Taiwo (Nigeria), who will join the Blavatnik School this September to study for the Master of Public Policy.
Each year, the AIG Scholarships programme offers five fully funded scholarships to outstanding West Africans who want to study for the Master of Public Policy. For the opening year of the programme, AIG decided to fund an additional scholarship, bringing the total number to six.
The AIG Scholars come from all backgrounds and are passionate about the public sector. Upon graduation, they will be expected to return to their home country and apply their learning experience in their country’s public sector.
“We are pleased to support our six AIG Scholars in their aspiration to acquire the skills and experience that will enable them elevate their capabilities and contribute meaningfully to the development of their nations,” said Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, AIG Founder and Chairman. “These outstanding young Africans will return home after their studies as high-performing public servants.”
Applications for AIG Scholarships 2018-/19 accepted
AIG have now also launched its call for applicants from Nigeria and Ghana who wish to apply for the Master of Public Policy in 2018 and be considered for an AIG scholarship, with the application window closing on 2 October 2017.
Candidates will have to demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership skills and intend to return to the public sector in Africa after completing their studies. Those who emerge as finalists in the Africa Initiative for Governance selection process will be expected to apply directly to the Blavatnik School for admissions, which open officially on 1 September 2017. Finalists who are offered admission to the Master of Public Policy will be considered by the School in the final selection of AIG Scholars.
