Are you looking for the opportunity to develop your teaching experience? The Blavatnik School of Government is seeking to engage Seminar Leaders and Project Consultants to join the teaching team of the Evidence in Public Policy course within the Master of Public Policy (MPP) in Hilary Term 2025.

The Evidence in Public Policy core course focuses on teaching students how to interpret, critique, design, and commission impact evaluations, and how to use them in practice in policy contexts.

As a Seminar Leader, you will have the opportunity to lead seminars, attend lectures and assess student work. As a Project Consultant, you will give students one-on-one feedback as they prepare their summative project, designing an impact evaluation of a government policy, and assess these projects. In both roles, you will be able to be involved in the broader life of the School

For both roles, you will be undertaking research in a relevant field and have excellent communication and organisational skills. Familiarity with quantitative approaches to impact evaluation is essential; familiarity with qualitative approaches to impact evaluation is desirable but not essential. Relevant previous experience is desirable, but not essential. As a Seminar Leader, you will have Masters-level training in a relevant field. As a Project Consultant, you will hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline. If qualified, you can undertake both the Seminar Leader and the Project Consultant role: please indicate in your application if you wish to do this.

You will be required to undertake the Social Sciences Division Preparation for Learning and Teaching course if you have not already received equivalent training. http://www.learning.ox.ac.uk/support/teaching/programmes/plto/.

In return, we offer you a friendly and supportive environment in which to develop your teaching practice. You will have the opportunity to engage with highly motivated students drawn from across the world who bring a range of experience, often at senior levels.  Past Seminar Leaders and Project Consultants have found the teaching experience to be distinctive and rewarding.  The students are on average older than comparable teaching environments in Oxford (median age 28), and the MPP is designed to train practitioners rather than develop academics.

Payment will be at the rate of £17.03 per hour (Grade 6.1) for Seminar Leaders and £18.98 per hour (Grade 7.1) for Project Consultants, plus hourly holiday pay (12.07%)

Expected time commitment, including attending lectures and preparation (which is paid) is approximately 70 hours in Weeks 1-5 of Hilary Term for Seminar Leaders, and approximately 51 hours in Weeks 6-8 of Hilary Term and the Spring vacation for Project Consultants.

Further particulars for this position, including information on how to apply, are outlined here.

We would welcome applications from those currently based in the UK, or overseas and who plan to be in Oxford in January 2025.

Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK at the time of the teaching.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon (UK time) on Friday 10 May 2024.
