biography

My interests centre on the security dimensions of the international system. My research is in the field of civil-military relations, focusing on how UK society's perspectives of soldiers can influence the British Army at war.

I grew up in London, attending St Albans School before reading History at Cambridge (Peterhouse) and commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I subsequently completed a MA in military and security studies at King's College London.

During my military service I have gathered operational experience in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Eastern Africa. Operations have been punctuated by time spent as an instructor, and in staff appointments at Strategic Command and the Army Headquarters (serving as an international policy and plans advisor to the Assistant Chief of the General Staff). I have commanded at Platoon, Company, and Battalion levels.

I enjoy theatre, literature, art and travel.
