On Wednesday 1 May, Professor Peter Piot will give a public lecture entitled 'No Time to Lose: A Life in Pursuit of Deadly Viruses' at Wolfson College from 4.30-5.30pm. Professor Piot will discuss his memoir (of the same name) and his experiences researching and fighting AIDS and ebola. There will be a drinks reception after the lecture.

A professor of global health and Founding Executive Director of UNAIDS, Peter Piot is the Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. Previously, he was Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and President of the International AIDS Society. He co-discovered the ebola virus in 1976 in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, and soon after he was one of the first researchers to recognise the scale of the emerging AIDS epidemic.

Professor Piot has worked to co-ordinate AIDS research efforts, convince sceptical governments of the need for funding and sensible social policy to fight the disease and persuade pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of life-saving drugs. He has been instrumental in securing billions of dollars for research and prevention campaign efforts. A prolific author, he has published 500 scientific articles and 16 books.
