biography

Mamiko worked as a government official at Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), where she has focused on a range of domestic and international issues for over six years, from leading energy, finance, and industrial policymaking to economic diplomacy with China, including the COVID-19 emergency response. Her long-term goal is to foster peace and prosperity in Japan while contributing to co-existence and co-prosperity among nations. Achieving this aim for a resource-poor country hinges on a stable energy supply, the lifeblood of people's lives and business activities. Her passion lies in designing a sustainable and resilient energy system that balances energy security, economic growth, and net zero.

During her time in Oxford, she is eager to gain insights to positively transform Japan and the world, learning from internationally diverse leaders and the socioeconomic systems and cultural contexts of different countries. She holds a BA in Global Political Economy from Waseda University.

Mamiko is a Japanese Government Program Scholar.
