Sebastian's research will be within the tradition of just war theory however he intends to look beyond the analytically pleasing, but false binary of just and unjust wars. This approach will enable him to define what fighting justly looks like in wars as they typically are morally complex affairs in which both sides exist along the continuum between just and unjust; and to investigate what this implies for what ought to be considered honourable conduct (in war and beyond).
Sebastian is from the USA. Before pursuing the DPhil at Oxford, he completed a MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy at the LSE and a BA from Amherst College. Between degrees, Sebastian worked as a management consultant and a math teacher with Teach for America.
Sebastian lives in Oxford with his wife and children, and enjoys ice hockey, walking his dog, and history.
Sebastian is a Clarendon Scholar.
