biography

Kimathi is a sustainable development researcher with particular interests in renewable energy transitions and environmental justice originally from Toronto, Canada.

He completed his undergraduate degree in history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Most recently, Kimathi worked as a law and policy analyst at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, working with government, civil society, and private sector partners to advance human rights and sustainability agendas for global land investments.

Kimathi has worked as a project leader for social justice focused non-profits and as a management consultant. He is nearing completion of the MSc in Environmental Change and Management at the Oxford University Environmental Change Institute. He enjoys rugby, ice hockey, live music, and hosting dinner parties.

Kimathi is a Rhodes Scholar.
