biography

Tomas grew up in Dubbo, regional NSW, Australia and completed a Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Sydney.

In 2015 he was accepted into the Doctor of Medicine and was also offered his first professional rugby contract - having played for the University - for the NSW Waratahs. In 2016 Tomas completed the first year of the MD, played 13 games for the Waratahs and made his debut for the Wallabies, the Australian national rugby union team. In 2017, due to rugby commitments, Tomas chose to defer the MD. He then spent five years at the NSW Waratahs, the last three years at the Western Force in Perth. Tomas currently has 31 test caps for the Wallabies. During this time Tomas completed a Master of Public Health and an MPhil (medicine) in Anaesthesia. His policy interests include learning how to change policy to improve the health care system in regional Australia, and in foreign policy and the way healthcare is run around the world.

Tomas is a Monash and Tommy Lawton Snr Oxford Scholar.
