ELAC Postdoctoral Research Fellow Priya Urs was cited in the opinion of judge ad hoc Kreß in last week's judgment of the International Court of Justice in the ongoing proceedings between The Gambia and Myanmar.

The Gambia brought the case in 2019 alleging violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention by Myanmar in relation to its treatment of the Rohingya minority. Priya's article, 'Obligations Erga Omnes and the Question of Standing before the International Court of Justice', was published in the Leiden Journal of International Law in 2021. It addresses the procedural implications of a right of standing for states other than injured states at the Court.
